understanding which Uses are supported
Please follow the Steps 1-4 to determine whether your Use will be included as a Supported Use in our REACH registration and in the new extended Safety Data Sheet when it becomes available.
Step 1: Refer to the "Generic Use mapping for Lubricants" or "Generic Use Mapping for Car Care Products" to locate the ExxonMobil product you purchase (these will be displayed in alphabetical order). The Generic Uses (GU) which have been assigned to the product and the associated Application categories are shown by a tick mark in the applicable column.
Step 2: Refer to the "Generic Use Description for Lubricants" or " Generic Use Description for Car Care products" to identify the General Scope and the REACH Use Descriptor information: Sector of Use (SU), Process Category (PROC), Product Category (PC), Environmental Release Category (ERC) allocated to the specific Generic Use (GU) identified in Step 1. For easier reference, you may want to print both tables.
Step 3:If your product Use is covered by the provided REACH Use Descriptors, there is no need to take further action since your Use will be covered by ExxonMobil and/or its upstream suppliers in their registration dossier.
Step 4: It is anticipated that the vast majority of your applications will be adequately described by Steps 1-3. However, in the unlikely case that your application is not covered, then it is recommended that you email the ExxonMobil Lubes and Specialties REACH team at reach-l&s@exxonmobil.com as soon as possible. They will be able to assist you in collecting the relevant information that ExxonMobil and/or its suppliers may require to consider your Use.
There is only a limited time window for you to provide this information. We would therefore encourage you to address this matter promptly as there is no obligation for us to consider Use communication received after Nov 30th 2009 for substances requiring REACH registration in 2010. If you feel uncomfortable with sharing Use information not already listed, you can conduct your own Chemical Safety Assessment which must be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency.
