| | | | Improving Road Safety in Europe | | The commitment of ExxonMobil to safety is that “Nobody Gets Hurt”. Our goal is to achieve an incident-free workplace with zero personal injuries, zero accidents and zero spills. We are not there yet, but we are making good progress. Today, we are already industry leader in safety in most areas and continue to improve. For example, in 2004, we had only one reported incident for every 4.3 million kilometers driven.
As a signatory of the European Road Safety Charter, ExxonMobil is committed to sharing its road safety experiences with haulers and other stakeholders and thus to contributing to raising standards across Europe. The aim of the Charter is to halve the number of road deaths in Europe by 2010. This would help to safe as many as 25,000 lives each year.
We believe that the key elements required to improve safety performance are a company safety culture, structured safety management programs, effective tools and assessment and recognition programs combined with a strong focus on human behaviour. These elements have helped us to significantly improve our road safety performance over the past ten years: for example in Europe a sevenfold decrease in incidents per mile since 1993! | | | | | | |
