“We are committed to continuous improvement in our safety performance and are
expanding our efforts to further collect and analyse data to learn from all
safety-related incidents so that we achieve our goal, Nobody Gets Hurt. We
also continued to support the fight against global health pandemics such as
malaria and HIV/AIDS, particularly in the developing world.” Lee R. Raymond,
Chairman and CEO
A commitment to safety and health
We are committed to ensuring the safety and health of our employees,
contractors, and community. We strive for an accident free workplace and our
goal is zero injuries or illnesses. The requirement for safety is an
overriding priority at all of our operations and facilities. We believe a
company's commitment to the highest standards of safety, health and
environmental care is indicative of superior performance in other aspects of
its operation. In 2003, we continued to be an industry leader in safety, with
the fewest number of safety incidents in company history. Our achievements
were recognised by five safety awards in Europe:
-
France – Groupe d’Etude de Sécurité des Industries Pétrolières Super Trophée
Performance Sécurité 2003 (awarded to Esso Société Anonyme Française)
-
Germany – German Statutory Association for Trade and Warehousing – first prize
for improving company safety management structures to prevent work-related
health risk (awarded to ExxonMobil Central Europe Holding GmbH)
-
UK – British Safety Council Sword of Honour for international marine
transportation.
-
UK – National Safety Panel RoSPA Gold Award Purfleet Lubricants Plant.
-
UK – RoSPA Transport & Distribution Sector Award International Marine
Transportation.
We also continue to invest in combating global health pandemics, such as
malaria. We help our employees with prevention programmes and health care
provision – and we work with governments and medical associations to help
address pandemics in Africa and elsewhere.
“It’s an
important duty for me and all of my colleagues. None of us wants to get to
hurt, so we make sure that we protect each other.” Michael Lane, Global
Environment & Health Manager, Downstream & Chemicals
